So i did an experiment to have a daily reminder this week to remind myself what’s the focus for the week. The first reminder is at 9 in the morning, the other at 2 in the afternoon. How did it go?
Although the reminders helped remind me of my focus, i still did not do it because I was reminded to do my personal goals during work hours. It’s not very timely, to say the least. It’s all good that the goals are front and center of my mind, but it’s of no use if it’s not at the right time of the day.
Looking at my personal goals of the week, I have 2 on reading books, and 2 on completing courses. I know I don’t need help in reminding me to read books, but to complete a course? That I definitely need help in.
So instead of setting reminders, I blocked off time at night before I slip into the Netflix blackhole. The trigger is Netflix, and the reminder is to go through 1 part of the course before Netflix. This was a much better strategy.
This is a classic habit building strategy that depends on a cue, the action, and a reward. In my case, the cue is Netflix, the action is going through a part of my course, and the reward is also Netflix. 😆
Do you think you can make use of this strategy for your goals?
