I can tell you why Overcast has been the podcasting app of my choice for years, but these guys can do it much better than me. So I’ll just tell you how I use it during my commutes.
I create 3 kinds of playlists:
This is a smart playlist where I specify the podcasts I always want to listen to. Then it will always download the latest from these podcasts, and arrange them by the most recent one right at the top. I’ve recently added Derek Sivers to the lineup. If you haven’t heard of him, you should so check him out.
These are also smart playlists where it’s centered around one theme. I currently have “running”, “trading” and “kids” playlists. My latest addition to the running theme is The Movement Movement.
And then I have a list where I dump certain episodes I want to listen to. Not the full podcast subscription, just one episode. This is either because I want to review some new podcasts I found out, or just because I feel like it. I have 2 such lists now. One called “Listen now” and the other called “Potentials”. I recently added an episode from Armchair Expert about Monica Lewinsky.
That’s it. 3 kinds of lists to suit my needs during my commute. How do you listen to your podcasts?
